There may be some debate as to what is the worst Spike-centric episodes, as of all the previous episodes with him as the main focus only 'Secret of My Excess' was above average. After such a brilliant previous episode ('Slice of Life'), it is really quite disheartening to see the season go several steps backwards in quality with one of its bottom 3 episodes and one that is among 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic's' worst as well.

So one's opinion of 'Princess Spike' is going to depend on what your overall feelings are about Spike. When episodes overdo his negative characteristics, and the ones that had him as the main focus tended to, he is very difficult to like and get behind. Spike has also been hit and miss for me, when he is written well and when his strengths are not overlooked he is engaging and when he is also used well one does see personality in him.

One of Season 5's least appealing premises. To be honest, the premise for 'Princess Spike' did not in hindsight sound very appealing.
